Le parti Aam Aadmi ( आम आदमी पार्टी, « Parti de l’homme ordinaire »), fondé en 2012 et qui dénonce la corruption et le népotisme des élites économiques et politiques, a choisi de se prononcer en faveur des droits des LGBT et des femmes en affirmant clairement vouloir décriminaliser l’homosexualité.
Avec 28 sièges sur 70 à l’Assemblée législative de Delhi, Aam Aadmi est le deuxième plus important parti du territoire de la capitale. Du 7 avril au 12 mai prochain, l’Inde organisera ses élections législatives pour faire élire les députés de la chambre basse du Parlement indien. Il pense conquérir des sièges au niveau national en axant sa campagne sur l’égalité, à côté de son combat contre la corruption. Dans son programme, la formation annonce vouloir amender la section 377 du Code pénal indien, introduite en 1861 par les colons britanniques, et qui criminalise toute activité sexuelle « contre les lois de la nature ».
La Cour suprême avait cassé une décision de la haute cour de Delhi qui décriminalisait l’homosexualité en décembre 2013.

Aam Aadmi was established only 18 months ago but won 28 of the 70 seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2013 – making them the second largest party in the National Capital Territory of Delhi (the Indian equivalent of Washington DC) and allowing them to form a minority government with the Indian National Congress Party.
Aam Aadmi have announced that the re-legalization of homosexuality will be a priority in its election manifesto – to be released later this week.
‘The party supports the [Delhi] high court’s decision on consensual gay sex. We will be mentioning it in the manifesto,’ an anonymous senior Aam Aadmi leader told Indian news agency IANS.
‘In our manifesto we will promise that the party favors amendments in the section so that homosexuals could live without fearing police action.’
The Delhi High Court decision to legalize gay sex was later overturned by the country’s Supreme Court.
The party, which grew out of the India Against Corruption movement, will also focus hard on government corruption and foreign policy as part of its effort to transform itself into a national rather than just regional party.
The Aam Aadmi Party literally means ‘The Common Man Party’ and its leader is the former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal.
